چکیده
Abstract Siphon-shaft spillways are constituted by covering above a shaft spillway with hood that creates siphonic pressure. This study focused on the aeration flow through aerator holes placed to prevent cavitational damage in high-head siphon-shaft spillways. Three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technique using finite-volume method solve Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) equations for incompressible viscous and turbulent fluids motion was performed analyze full-scaled two-phase numerical models. The volume of (VOF) scheme used simulate (water–air) flow, defining fraction each throughout solution domain. accuracy model tested procedure recommended American Society Mechanical Engineers (ASME) CFD applications. results showed is highly effective reducing siphon sub-pressures cavitation. optimal relative diameter 0.45 provided sufficient air entrainment protect from cavitation did not decrease discharge performance too much.

Aeration and de-aeration at bottom aeration devices on spillways
Aeration devices are introduced along chute spillways and at bottom outlets to prevent cavitation damage in high velocity flows. Bottom aerators are characterised by large quantities of air entrained along the jet interfaces but also by a strong de-aeration process near the impact of the water jet with the spillway bottom. In this paper, the aeration and de-aeration occurring respectively in th...

Fluid dynamical simulations based on nite discretizations on (quasi-)static grids scale well in parallel, but execute at a disappointing percentage of per-processor peak oating point operation rates without special attention to layout and access ordering of data. We document both claims from our experience with an unstructured grid CFD code that is typical of the state of the practice at NASA. ...
متن کاملEffect of Deflector and Aeration On the Discharge Coefficient of Submerged Flow of Morning Glory Spillways
Spillways are responsible for draining floods in dams. However, morning glory spillways are considered as free spillway type. In floods, a submerged flow is formed in their crest. This factor leads to severe pressure fluctuations in the shaft, suction and vibration of the structure and also reduces the spillway efficiency. Insufficient knowledge of the hydraulics of the submerged flow will be a...
متن کاملExperimental study of Hydraulic Flow of Circular Piano-Key Inlet in Shaft Spillways
One of the most important conflicts that shaft spillways have to deal with is vortex formation. This phenomenon leads to some unfavorable effects such as vibration in the body of structures, air entrainment and reduced overflow capacity of the spillway. Among all solutions for disrupted vortex formation, an innovative one called circular piano-key spillway, based upon piano key weir principles ...
